My Trip to the Grand Canyon
During my senior year of high school, I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon with my mom and dad. I had never seen the Grand Canyon in person, but I was instantly captivated by it's beauty. I remember being breathless the first time I walked up to the rim. Everywhere I looked, there was a different feature more interesting than the last. I had the opportunity to watch the sun set over the canyon and I watched the colors of the canyon change as the sun moved across the walls.
The real fun, however, was when we hiked 14 miles of the Grand Canyon. We started the hike at 6 a.m. and finished about 10 hours later. I'll be honest, this hike was one of the most difficult things I've ever done, but each step was worth it. Every time I took a turn or headed in a new direction, the Canyon would look completely different. It was so cool to be inside the walls of the Canyon! It definitely made me "ooh" and "ahh."
Our hike started at the rim of the Grand Canyon. After about 5 miles, we took a turn onto South Kaibab Trail. We followed Kaibab for another five miles which was my favorite part of the hike! The Kaibab Trail took us through the center and heart of the Canyon, so we were surrounded by beauty! The last four miles were on Bright Angel Trail, and unfortunately, were all uphill. Although walking up from the bottom of the Grand Canyon was one of the most painful walks ever, the views were still amazing. I got to see the Grand Canyon from all different angles, and I will always remember the beauty I saw while hiking!
